Katie Wearne
Katie was born in the mean suburbs of Cincinnati. During her developing years, she created several successful pinch pots, which qualifed her to take a ceramics class in high school. This was where she truly discovered her love of clay and glazes - and, says "It was also a good excuse to wear old clothes."
After many hours of weekly practicing, Katie claims she created passable impressions of bowls and mugs on the wheel; so, she decided enroll at Kent State to major in Computer Science where she also devoted 90% of her time to a ceramics minor.
"While in college, I became passionate about creating functional forms, partially because dishes can get expensive to buy and somewhat because it irked the Fine Arts Department," says Katie. "But, mostly because it feels like more of a challenge to create something that is equally beautiful and functional."
As her experience grew, Katie began to push the boundaries of functionality by manipulating pieces beyond typical round shapes into more distorted, free-form designs.
After completing college and entering the 9-to-5 (or 6, or 7, or 8...) world, Katie found that her life was empty without her pottery. Accumulating pieces created by others did not fill the void like creating her own. "With the great, and possibly misguided, support of friends, family and teachers, I am now creating pottery again from my apartment studio."
"Please use my pottery...it loves to have a purpose!"
All pieces are microwave, dishwasher, oven and food safe.
